The Bluecoat has appointed Trinidadian based international artist, Wendell McShine as part of the Liverpool Primary Care Trust’s artist-in-residence project.

Wendell McShine’s project ” Art Connect Liverpool ” brings together two distinct groups within the community of Liverpool, working with Blue Room, our group of adults with learning disabilities and a group of young people out in Norris Green’s the Pad project. Wendell’s project focuses on a series of dynamic art workshops; Animation Documentation, Mask Making, Drawing and Graffiti all aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of participants, with a strong emphasis on raising the aspirations of young people.

Wendell McShine Studio work in Liverpool

This enriching exploration into the personal stories of the youth and the adults will be guided by the topic of self-awareness in an attempt to bridge the generational gap and promote self discovery and community togetherness.

McShine will be developing an in studio body work that takes us into his never ending world of fantasy and the dark silence of the human condition. Ghostly animations, moving sketchbooks and charcoal drawings fills the studio spaces at the Bluecoat as a religious exercise to his finds from working within communities. Three days out of the week McShine will work within the neighborhoods on a focused series of dynamic art workshops on Animation and drawing to name a few. There will a grand group exhibition in the city of Liverpool in the month of March.

More to come from McShine’s residency in Liverpool exclusively through ARC.

About the Artist:

Raw, transcendental and overly mystifying it is no surprise that International artist Wendell Mc Shine is from the island of “the Carnival” Trinidad and Tobago. Currently based and producing work in Mexico City there’s a lucid cross pollination expressed through stunning iconography. When one moves full heartedly into the doorway of Wendell’s, A.K.A. Shine’s work, a multi level narrative, which constructs upon itself is discovered. Bandidos, Jewel Stars, King Crows, Nahuales, Humming Birds, mezcal bottles, plantation houses, skulls, towering coconut trees, hibiscus flowers, rubber ‘slippers’, etc., coexist in a world of wooden panels, canvases, organic animations and paper mache masks.

Shine’s murals, paintings and video installations have been showcased, reviewed and in-cooperated widely in the urban art market: Adidas Originals, Absolute Vodka, Harper’s Bazaar, Juxtapose Online Magazine, Canvas Magazine, INDI Rocks Magazine, Elaboratorio Urban Art Gallery/ Upper Playground, Artrio Art Space, Art Auction “Mexico Vivo” (along with Mexican artist Javier Marin, Francisco Toledo, Jose Luis Cuevas to name a few), London Print Studios, Fahrenheit Contemporary Art Magazine.

Grenadian Art is defined as art that is produced relevant to Grenada, and/or by Grenadian and non-Grenadian artists.

Grenadian Art is defined as art that is produced relevant to Grenada, and/or by Grenadian and non-Grenadian artists. In spite of the GAC’s small size, the main focus of council over the past 48 years has been and remains, the promotion and development of Grenadian visual art. In 2011, the GAC joined IFACCA, the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies www.ifacca.org. IFACCA created in December 2000, has members in over 70 countries, and is the global network of national arts funding agencies dedicated to improving best practice in arts and cultural policy development, arts funding, audience development and public access to the arts.

Like the GAC on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Grenada-Arts-Council/196365887056194 and a blog which you can rss to: http://www.grenadaartscouncil.blogspot.com/

Statistics are necessary for the GAC to put together proposals to access both local and international donor funding for our proposed developmental programmes. This information will also provide them with an up to date list of the number of artists producing Grenadian art, and the type of work they create. With this in mind, the GAC is putting together a database of all artists resident in Grenada, and Grenadian artists living abroad, and invite all artists at this time to provide the following information, via email to gac.asp@gmail.com before 31st March 2012.

Artist Full Name (First, Last)

Year of Birth
Place of Birth (City, Country)
Current resident Parish in Grenada
Contact Numbers (cell and landline with area code)
Email address
Studio/Business/Mailing Address
Website or Blog (if applicable)
General Statement about your work

Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this project. Please forward this infrormation to any other artists that you may know who should be included in the GAC’s database. For more information please contact Suelin Low Chew Tung, who is Project Officer at Cell 473 456-1953 – outside business hours and Cell 473 418-4224 – during business hours (10am-6pm weekdays, and 10am-2pm Saturdays).
